In its resolution 53/9, the Human Rights Council decided to extend the mandate of Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, for a period of three years. In its resolution 60/25, the Council decided to merge that mandate with the mandate of Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, including its causes and consequences, into a single mandate under the title of Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery and trafficking in persons, with the new mandate holder starting his or her functions on 1 May 2026, with the understanding that the current Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, would continue her mandate until July 2026. The Council will consider the reports of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Siobhán Mullally, during an interactive dialogue.
